Our Sustainability Journey So Far

At FOXFORD, we believe in progress, not the loud kind, but the kind that happens quietly, over time. The kind that takes root, grows season by season, and reflects the landscape and values that shape us.
Over the past few years, we’ve been working steadily to reduce our impact and rethink how we do things, from how we power our mill to how we plate up lunch in the cafe. Here’s a little of what we’ve done, and what we’re planning next.

Powering Ourselves

Our solar panels now generate the power we use to run the mill, helping us reduce our reliance on the grid and make the most of the long, bright West of Ireland days. It’s a practical step forward, and one we’re proud of.

Packaging, Without the Plastic

We’ve removed plastic from all bedding and online orders. Your purchases now arrive wrapped in recyclable or reusable materials, without compromising the care or quality we’re known for.

Cups with a Clear Conscience

Almost every takeaway item from the Foxford Cafe, from cups to cutlery, is now recyclable or compostable. It’s a slight shift, but one we feel strongly about, especially in a space so connected to our local community.

Spaces with a New Purpose

Parts of the original Foxford mill have found new life as production kitchens, photography spaces for our e-commerce team, and beautifully reimagined rooms for meetings, workshops and private gatherings. These old walls are full of stories, and we’re proud to keep writing new ones.

What We Grow and What We Give

Since COVID, we have tended to our wild garden, a small herb garden, and now a vegetable patch in front of the Mill, with the help of a local farmer. Kitchen waste will be composted and returned to the soil, creating a quiet, meaningful cycle of use and renewal.
Our off-cuts never go to landfill. When available, they’re donated to charities where they can do good, or repurposed into new creations like our lavender-filled eye pillows.

Coming Soon

There’s more to come,  and we’re excited to share a few of the plans already underway:

A Composter of Our Own: We’ll be managing our composting onsite, further closing the loop between the kitchen and the garden.

A Greener Glasshouse: Next spring, we plan to refurbish our glasshouse and grow more seasonal leaves, herbs and ingredients for the cafe.

A Celebration of Plant-Based Cooking: In October, we’ll launch the first Foxford Cafe Cookbook, complete with recipes that reflect our commitment to fresh, local, predominantly plant-based food.

Sourcing Close to Home: The cafe continues to work with local suppliers wherever possible, and our complete retail food offering is handmade in our two onsite kitchens.

We know sustainability is never a finished story, and we’re the first to say there’s still much to do. But step by step, season by season, we’re moving forward with intention, care, and an eye to the future.

Thank you for being part of it.
